Haquoss ION EXCHANGE RESIN – KH/GH is a special resin designed to immediately reduce KH (carbonate hardness) and GH (total hardness) in freshwater. The recommended KH value (i.e., the content of carbonate salts dissolved in the water) is approximately 5/7°, while the GH (i.e., the content of mineral salts dissolved in the water) should be around 10/12°. Both values tend to rise when partial water changes are performed in the aquarium using tap water. The KH should only be reduced by 2/3° per day.

DOSAGE: Approximately 400 grams eliminate 1000/1200 degrees of temporary and total hardness. This means that if a 100-liter aquarium has values equal to 10° of KH and 20° of GH, and 50 liters of water are passed through the resin, the KH value will drop to 5°/6° and the GH will drop to 10°/12°, with a resin consumption of 250 degrees of hardness out of the 1000/1200 available. This consumption is mathematically deduced from the previous equivalence, but the lifespan of the resin also depends greatly on the GH value (total hardness), since the higher it is, the faster the resin is consumed. When the resin is saturated, it does not release the absorbed carbonates but simply stops removing them.

USE: Insert the resin into the supplied sock, close it, and place it inside a funnel positioned at the mouth of a clean plastic tank. Remove the necessary amount of water to be treated and let it flow slowly through the resin into the tank. All this water will have a KH and GH of approximately 0°/1° with immediate effect. If the values have not lowered sufficiently, repeat the operation. It is advisable to measure the pH (6.5/7.5°), KH (5/7°), and GH (10°/12°) values before reintroducing the water into the aquarium.

If the pH value has lowered, simply shake the water tank vigorously for a minute, as this causes oxygenation and brings the pH back to previous values. Then add the treated water to the aquarium and add Haquoss DM1 Conditioner and Haquoss DM2 Alive.

IMPORTANT: If the aquarium substrate (gravel or fertilizer) is partially calcareous (i.e., contains a significant percentage of carbonate salts), every time water with KH and GH at 0° is added, the carbonate salts in the substrate will continue to dissolve and the KH will not decrease. In this case, the only solution is to replace the substrate with an inert one. Follow the instructions carefully, as the resin is very strong and overdosing could significantly lower KH and GH values.
